Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy.”
Reiki restores balance to one’s subtle energy system - releasing blockage and facilitating flow to areas of stagnation. Trauma, negative thought patterns, and injury are some of the experiences that can contribute to blocked energy in the body. These blockages adversely effect one’s mental and physical health. In the energy field of receptivity and intention, Reiki aims to create harmony between one’s body, mind, and spirit while nurturing both specific (i.e. reduction in anxiety and pain) and overall wellness.
Sessions are offered in an environment of nurturance, support, and safety - love and compassion guide presence and healing. Work is done on a table (similar to a massage table) in which the client is fully clothed and awake. The practitioner’s hands hover just above the body; however, the client can choose to receive this energy through light touch.
Reiki is not a religion - it has no dogma and does not conflict with religious beliefs.
Reiki is used in synchronicity with any other type of treatment- be it medical or psychological. Currently, this practice is used in over 800 hospitals in the United States.
